A Semi-on for the Demijohns...
Skipper called heads and he won,
Village looking to extend, their unbeaten run,
At 30 degrees, some went weak at the knees,
When sent into the field and the sun.
The ‘John’s quickly out of the blocks,
A couple of splendid knocks (from Dean and Bachelor),
250 looked modest, if the Village was honest,
Until late wickets had ‘John’s flummoxed.
227 was the score at tea,
As Villagers lounged under the trees,
Eating their cakes, and resting their aches,
Further educating Davis about cheese.
The chase was a nervous affair,
Conway stranded without a prayer,
Meier watchful as ever, never short of endeavour,
Until his forward defence found nothing but air.
Ross was in delightful form,
Breaking pavillion tiles like a thunderstorm,
Then Conway got nervous, doing Ross a disservice,
LBW laws we need to inform.
Tonya Harding and Skip at the crease,
And the bowling pace did increase,
Tonya schnikked off, Bill found nothing but cloth,
The chance of the win had decreased.
The tail was left with too much to do,
The remaining runs they couldn’t accrue,
The collapse completed, and Village defeated,
A defeat some might say was overdue.
So a great game against the Demijohns,
A glass or two raised of Semillon,
To playing the game in good spirit, some excellent cricket,
Until next year our friends from St John's.
